Can aluminum production be carbon free? Yes, and sooner than we thought!

So for us as aluminum lovers there is great news! Aluminum producers in Europe and Canada in particular are always looking for ways to make aluminum production more sustainable. There has been a breakthrough in the development of techonology that will drastically reduce carbon emissions in the aluminum extraction process. This new technology will essentially remove the carbon monoxide from the smelting process. When smelting it will emit oxigen instead. Although large amounts of energy will still be needed, if it comes from renewable sources it will essentially mean the aluminum is carbon free.
